  • Osteopaths are very similar to both Chiropractors and Physiotherapists. In many ways we are trying to achieve the same goals with our patients but we use slightly different techniques. Osteopathy focuses on manual adjustments, myofascial release, and other manipulations of the muscle, soft tissue and bones. An osteopath looks at the function of the whole body and uses a holistic approach when treating patients. Osteopaths are very hands on and typically have longer appointments.

Below is a non-exhaustive list of the conditions that Osteopaths can treat from the current evidence-base. This is approved by the ASA regulatory body.

    Arthritic and rheumatic pain

    Fibromyalgia,

    Sciatica,

    Lumbago,

General, acute and chronic back pain,

    Mechanical neck pain,

    Frozen shoulder,

    Shoulder and elbow pain,

Tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis), Headache arising from the neck (cervicogenic) and migraine prevention,

Joint pains including hip and knee pain from osteoarthritis as an adjunct to core OA treatments and exercise,

    Generalised aches and pains,

    Minor sports injuries,

    Muscle spasms,

    Neuralgia (nerve pain),

Tension and inability to relax, Circulatory problems,

    Cramp,

    Digestion problems.

Osteopaths must complete a degree or postgraduate master’s degree approved by the General Osteopathy Council (GOsC).

  • This depends on your condition. What was the cause and how did it start? How long have you had it? Have you had surgery? What makes it better and worse? Are there any underlying medical conditions?

What we can say is, we will do our best to help you reduce your pain and discomfort as soon as possible. It is better not to leave pain until it becomes a chronic (long-term) problem, as chronic conditions can take longer to sort out.

  • Yes, of course. We understand how daunting it can be to go somewhere new. We will do everything we can to help you relax, and that includes talking through what the problem is before we treat you. Sometimes bringing an extra pair of ears to our clinic in Flint will help when you are talking about it later at home.

  • Loose fitting clothes are perfect. Your privacy will always be valued. If comfortable during consultation you may be asked to remove some clothing to help access problem areas.

  • This is a common concern for people when they first consider seeing an acupuncturist. Acupuncture needles are much finer than the needles that most people are familiar with; for example, when having an injection or giving blood.

Most people will not even feel the needles being inserted and are only aware of them because of a slight dull ache or tingling at the point of insertion. These feelings are an indication of the flow of Qi through this area and are perfectly normal. Often working with patients with painful conditions; the acupuncture is therefore used to relieve pain, not induce it!

During treatment, you will be asked how you feel. The procedure should not be painful or uncomfortable; this is not a “no pain, no gain” type of treatment. Patients often tell us how relaxed they feel after their treatment and very often will go to sleep whilst lying on the couch with their needles still in!

  • No! Manipulation of the joints may be uncomfortable if you are in a lot of pain, but in that case, any movement tends to be sore. The process itself is used by fully trained professionals is a non-traumatic "click" of the joint to open the facet (joint) and allow it to move more freely. If you or anyone you know clicks their knuckles, it's a similar process, and it's clear to see that's not painful either!

  • You don’t have to be an athlete to benefit from Sports Massage Therapy.

Our treatments are highly effective for all sorts of pains, that haven’t come from a sporting injury. For example: tight, short and sore muscles caused by poor posture, bad workstation set-up, high stress levels and injury.

This can cause pain and discomfort. Sports Massage Therapy uses a variety of techniques to soften stiff and knotted muscles, so that the body can start the natural process of healing.

However, the clinic has been left in good hands with familiar faces. We still have a team of dedicated, professional and experienced practitioners here at the clinic who have worked with Bruce and Tina over the years and continue to take care of you.

We are always interested in hearing from qualified Osteopaths and Physiotherapists in regards to Associate roles here at our busy Flint clinic.

If you wish to contact us in regards to working with us, please email info@thepainreliefcentre.co.uk or call us on 01352731818
